The rule of odds is a compositional technique that states that the use of an odd number of distinguishable figures within a frame is visually pleasing. On a walk through my neighborhood i took this photo of some poppy flowers against an empty sky. I felt the simplicity of the background contrasted well with the natural randomness of the plants in the foreground.
Category: Composition
The objective of this weekly photo blog was to take photos that implement composition techniques in photography.
Negative Space
Negative space, or the empty space around and between objects, is an important factor to consider when taking photography, as it can contribute quite a bit to whether or not a photograph feels too cluttered or empty. I went on a bicycle ride out to the bay near where I live, where I took this photo on a bridge above a river. I felt the soft colors of the clouds and sky contrasted well with the blurred curving grasses below, leaving a thin line of detail in the middle of the photograph.
Center Frame Portrait
This week’s Photo Blog assignment was to Take a photo of a center frame focus to create a feeling of loneliness.
I took this photo in the town i grew up in, alongside what used to be a mountain road that eventually got closed due to instability and has since become a trail.
Balance Accidental Renaissance style
This week’s photo blog assignment was to take a photo with balance accidental renaissance style. I took this picture at an old brewery up in the hills that had been there for a very long time. The style of the architecture as well as the faded wood reminds me a lot of renaissance style paintings.
Leading Lines
This week’s Photo blog assignment was to take a photo of Leading Lines to direct viewers attention. I went to a park by the bay and found this interesting landscape that I felt worked well.
I also took some close up shots of some plants, as they heavily use lines in their biology, though they don’t do a great job of directing attention.
Symmetry Landscape
This weeks photo challenge was to find and photograph a symmetrical landscape. While reading this assignment, I immediately thought of this photo. Though I had taken it a few months before, this image was still fresh in my mind. This photo was taken with a somewhat low quality camera, the image has a distinct graininess to it, though in my opinion it assists the sort of ominous presence that it gives off, and relates it to a style known as Liminal Photography, a place taken out of context.
Rule Of Thirds Motion
This weeks photo challenge was to use the rule of thirds to show motion. To do this, I lined my guitar up with the left third of the screen and plucked some of the strings. I set the cameras settings so that it would pick up the small movements but it is admittedly a bit difficult to tell.
