Negative Space

Negative space, or the empty space around and between objects, is an important factor to consider when taking photography, as it can contribute quite a bit to whether or not a photograph feels too cluttered or empty. I went on a bicycle ride out to the bay near where I live, where I took this photo on a bridge above a river. I felt the soft colors of the clouds and sky contrasted well with the blurred curving grasses below, leaving a thin line of detail in the middle of the photograph.
