I produced this podcast to take a lighthearted, humorous approach to talking about veganism. I wanted to make it less of a negative, overbearing thing, rather, acknowledge my personal take on why I am a more quiet, respectful vegan. Keeping it fun and funny, I wanted the overall message to be that we all live our lives the way we do for a reason, and although we can influence each other to make certain choices, the most important thing is respecting each other and doing good for each other and the world.
I am Ilsa Askren, a senior at LAHS and Freestyle Academy. Aside from my busy schedule of working several jobs, playing guitar, and volunteering, I am a 24/7 vegan. I have been vegan for over 4 years so I thought I would take my experience and share it with people!
Some people act surprised or refreshed when they hear from me that I am vegan––they always explain that they expected me to be “one of those vegans” who aggressively states reasons to be vegan or constantly says they’re vegan. I wanted to address this issue and provide insight on the life and thought process of a respectful, calm vegan. I think delivering this message through a podcast helps the listeners to really absorb it, more than if it were delivered through a video or article. A podcast forces people to just sit and listen, therefore making it easier to absorb whatever it is being said.
I had fun making this podcast, not only because it was pretty easy for me to go on and on about veganism, but it prompted me to think in further depth about my lifestyle choice––being vegan. My dad also has his own podcast and is always working on a script or brainstorming ideas, so it was really fun for me to do that first-hand and talk about stuff i feel really passionate about and hopefully bring clarity or a couple laughs to some people.
