Introduction

At Freestyle Academy, we are acquired with imagination through our minds and use our academic skills and creative thinking in projects. Students here can also express themselves by communicating with others and make friends. We also use programs and softwares such as Adobe to guide us the way to learning about the arts, and we can learn the tools that are useful for assignments.

For me, as a student at Freestyle, I’ve had a blast attending there and it taught me that I can take my time on assignments and learn the values of animation that I didn’t know about. Though sometimes, it’s kind of hard getting to know my classes and learning softwares. But even now, I can still be able to catch up on what I need to work on and still be active as a student at Freestyle.

Art Reflection

In our first week at Freestyle, we went to the Museum of Modern Art at San Francisco. We saw all kinds of artwork such as painting, sculptures, evolution of radios and technology, and pieces of art that were made out of broken plastic, metal, and wood. I was with my mom walking around the museum as we got to explore each room we went into, but not all rooms though. After the trip, we had an assignment that was about the trip. We had to pick a piece of artwork that makes us feel awe and explain why.

This video was made by me in August 2024 through Adobe Premiere Rush.

While making this vide, it was fun doing this short assignment. I was very unaware of this assignment after my field trip at first glance, but I worked on it for a few months until October. IK might have worked very late on this video, at least Adobe Premiere Pro taught me how to use these tools whenever I edit videos for assignments. These are important in both English and Digital Media classes, and I’m willing to work harder in the future.

Parody Introduction

Introduction

This is the second project we were assigned to do in Digital Media. We were tasked to come up with a parody of a an already published song, and we had to come up with lyrics, a topic, and record it once we were ready. Later, I created a google doc to write a topic and lyrics. However, the lyrics were mostly “NANI” over and over again so I didn’t think it would work, so I had to record without written lyrics.

I chose the song, Happy by Pharrell Williams to do this project because it’s my favorite song ever since I was 6.

Artist Statement

The title of the parody is called “Time for Slappy”. I made this song because I think that sometimes not everything is happy, like how we live in a society filled with politics and other world problems, so I came up with something made up that sounds like gibberish but sounds like an actual word, and the word itself is like how you get into trouble for something you’ve caused.

I had a bit of a rough time to do this project because I was a little nervous with singing in a recording room, fearing that I might say the wrong words. Once Mr. Flo told us that not all parodies have to be good but they can sound bad while they’re good, I felt a little better. However, recording it wasn’t easy because I recorded what I sung separately in one of the recording rooms. So I had to record again and so far, it didn’t sound like I hoped because I got a bit nervous doing it. After I was done recording, I had no choice but to use the song to make it into a song. Though I was never able to turn it into the website, so I had to turn it in even if my other classmates never got to hear it.

Parody Lyrics

Because my day is so… slappy slappy slappy

slappy slappy slappyyy!

Yeah it’s… a very lovely day

And it’s… also a bit…

funny funny funny funny, yeah

It’s a lovely...

Yeah, its… it’s not even a very good day

And that’s also, … I can’t even think of anymore

At first, I was a bit pressured about doing this project because I’ve never done a parody before and was a little worried of what I wrote would turn bad, but when Mr. Flo told us that all parodies are supposed to sound bad, I stepped out of my comfort zone and make my song sound more “bad” and have off-beat lyrics when I recorded it. In the end, I may have failed to turn my song into the website, but at least I did the parody.
