Greetings! I am Jack Clark! In 2024-2026, I was a Junior and Senior at Freestyle Academy. After I graduate from high school, I plan to attend Foothill College so I could study the animation workforce and become a writer. When I was first enrolled, it was quite hard to get used to the equipment, and it wasn’t much of a good beginning year for me to begin with, but my experience got better in the second year once I received an award in an art contest and became the “Most Improved Student” in all of Freestyle Academy.

Here are the top three projects I’ve made during my time in Freestyle!

2D animation

My first highlight about junior year was that I was assigned to create a puppet character, both 2D and puppet, so it could be our stepping stone in learning about animation. What I liked about it is that I could unleash my creativity, with Ivan nearly succeeding on that matter.

The second highlight of junior year was working on the visual animation assignment, because I got to collaborate with two of my schoolmates to make this project come to life. Although the process on finishing it was rather slow and rough due to slacking off, the final version turned out to be alright when we finished the project together.

Worldbuilding Project

Doing the Multi-Layered Art and LightBox projects are another highlight of my accomplishments in my senior year! What I’ve loved about them is that I get to come up with the scenarios for the projects assigned so that I could sketch it out and do layer-by-layer to fit it through the box. I’ve spent a lot of time doing them when I was in the DM room, and they were worth it.

Working on the world-building unit back in English was kind of a hassle for me when I first started it, with a lot of the planning, consistency, and even the process of it, especially when you can’t seem to have a full-on plan for your group-mates. But as time goes on by overall, I’ve shown my all by working really hard on most of it all the way through, even if the second and third acts took quite a while to get done.

3D animation

One of my best work during senior year was definitely 3D animation, because I got to open my creativity even more so I could create an even better character than the last one, which turned out to be Donnie the Husky! Learning how to make a character through 3D softwares was tacky to learn without making them come off as blobby, but even then I was able to handle all of the tools used in Autodesk Maya.

I’ve also worked on the visual narrative with two schoolmates of mine. Similar to what I did in 2D animation, we just had to come up with a story, but this time we can use our own characters. I liked doing this project because I think it was even better than the project I did in the previous year, and it shows. I’ve also loved that the process was even quicker and much more planned out, even if some scenes needed time to get fixed.

I’ll admit that working in 3D animation wasn’t quite easy to do, since it was hard learning all of the techniques when I first started it, but over time, I learned so much from all of the tutorial videos to use this kind of software to the point where I can appreciate it now.
