My submission for the second weekly photo challenge is similarly dark to my submission for the first challenge, although for a much different purpose. This challenge was more difficult to conceptualize and plan for me, as the prompt, “portray motion using the rule of thirds,” is much more vague.
At first I didn’t really have a good idea for a subject of this photo, but as I was patrolling the perimeter of my house, I noticed a sharp change in angle of the fence. I decided that with proper framing, this angle could be turned into a zig-zag turn which could carry a lot of visual momentum.
I waited until night to shoot the photo, because the darkness hides the limited extent of the fence as well as the noisy background. When shooting I made doubly sure to align the fence line with the key points of the rule of thirds, with the angle change happening in the top-right point.
I think the photo very successfully demonstrates both concepts, and I am very proud of the way it turned out.
