Narrative Visual Perspective in Film

In Film, we started our narrative project in October, doing quick elevator pitches to the class. Since our class is only 4 people, we all worked together on our film. We chose CodyF’s idea about an Uber driver whose car gets hijacked by a group of robbers. The story went through countless rewrites and had many variations. In some, the story was serious. In others, it was a comedy. We had our main character realize crime was more lucrative than uber driving and joined the gang, but then we changed it to him being forced to be their getaway driver. Finally, we settled on an Uber driver named John who accidentally picks up a group of robbers called The Red Masks after a heist and totally fangirls over them, trying to join their group. Reluctantly, the leader of the group lets him be their getaway driver for their next mission. When the heist goes wrong, the Red Masks are in deep trouble.

We spent the rest of the semester brainstorming, writing, then storyboarding. Click on the red mask to view the script of our film!

After we wrote the script, we had to “line it”. This basically means writing down what angles we want for each bit of the story (for example: a wideshot and 2 close ups for a bit of dialogue)

After we lined our script, we entered all the shots into a shotlist to help us keep track of everything we needed to film.
