Portfolio

After two memorable years of learning digital art techniques, I would like to present you my favorite works that I have made in Freestyle Academy. In addition, since I learned so many skills that enabled me to create projects outside of Freestyle, I will also showcase those works I have made that I am extremely proud of.

Freestyle Projects

3D Landing Page (Blender & Three.js)

What you are looking at below is my 3D custom landing page also known as the first ever 3D landing page ever created in Freestyle. This is inspired by my Zenith project where I modeled my house and made an interactive display online, so I used the skills I learned from that experience to make a cyberpunk style workstation. I went with this style because I like futuristic style architecture and since I am going into engineering I like to think of upgrading technology and infrastructure.

I still kept my original 2D landing page that can be accessed by clicking the blue button on the top right corner. This was created using Blender (3D modeling software) and Three JS (a 3D Javascript library). These 3D website development concepts were actually not taught at Freestyle, so I felt like I grew a lot from this project because I was able to do some research and really perservere and commit to my goal of taking my website to the next level and going 3D.

Documentary Book

The hardest but another project I am most proud of is the Documentary Book and Magazine project. This pushed me out of my comfort zone to reach out to people who I can interview, write a paper about their story, learn the elements of design, and use Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator in combination to create a book. My documentary book is about Flying Fish Swim School, a swim school where I learned to swim since I was in elementary school. I interviewed my swim coach Edgar Mendoza, and the manager of Flying Fish, Jennifer Hatch to learn about their experiences in swimming and teaching.

Through this project, I was able to explore different creative ways to design my layouts, for example, instead of a solid background I created a swimming pool water pattern, and I put large text and numbers instead of giant bubbles to give the reader a feel of the swimming pool environment. This project makes me look forward to creating similar projects like this in the future, where I am inspired to make more magazine articles and books about organizations I work with that I find interesting.

Worldbuilding Layered Art

What I enjoy about Freestyle is I got the chance to create a lot of analog art like using materials such as wood to complement the stories that I wrote in English Class. After creating this project, this really opened my eyes about how literature is not just limited to pictures and words, as it can also be tangible products made using building materials.

When writing a story about a miner named Eugene Croy who leads the revolt against a mining company, I created this 3D mining tunnel environment using Adobe Illustrator and get it laser cut on wood. I took advantage of the layers of wood to create depth and the deep tunnel feel from our story.

Freestyle Posters

As a Design student, I challenged myself to make posters for as many Freestyle events as I can, specifically the Open House and Exhibition events. I also made an effort to recruit more Design students at Freestyle through making a “Join Design at Freestyle” poster for my design teacher Ms. P. Creating my first poster at Freestyle really got me into making graphics for my community, as I learned a lot from Ms. P’s feedback that I got from her. I remember sitting down on the couch with her and we would spend hours looking over my Designs to polish it and learn these important layout elements.

Other Personal Projects

Olimpico Learning 2025 Recap Video

Outside of Freestyle, I worked with my Freestyle classmate and friend Ashley Cook to create a 2025 Recap video for a non-profit organization called Olimpico Learning, lead by Ms. Rafati, who is also the coordinator of the tutorial center at Mountain View High School. Olimpico Learning focuses on hands-on environmental awareness activities for young students and low-income families. Through the recap video, we used Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, and Animate to showcase all the activities they did the past year. While this is only a 2-3 minute long video, we spent over 20 hours on this project through refining the voiceovers, animations, and other details.

Garage 803 Racing Solar Car Team Website

A big part of Digital Media is learning the basics of web development through HTML, CSS and Javascript. While I entered Freestyle Junior year hoping to just get these concepts over with in the class, I actually found joy and the full potential of using these elements to customize website layouts and animations.

When joining my friend’s solar car racing team Garage 803 Racing, they coded their website and I joined in to help fix the layout and create new webpages. This is one of the biggest projects I have done outside of Freestyle where I applied the concepts I learned from Digital Media to customize our team webpage, fix bugs, and make a mobile UI friendly layout and adaptability.
