This is a photo of my sister during a Zoroastrian ceremony called a Navjote. A Navjote is a religious initiation into the Zoroastrian religion, and is an important part of our culture, equivalent to a Bat-Mitzvah. However, Navjote ceremonies for those joining the world’s oldest monotheistic religion are much more rare; there are only has …
For my reflection image, I chose a photo I took during a race on a hot day. Because of the blistering temperature, the heat waves coming off of the track created an “inferior mirage,” which created the reflection of the runner as seen in the image. In this photo, I added a slight dutch tilt, …
This is a photo of a rose in my garden. To get the rich colors, I shot the picture in Canon’s RAW format, which allowed me to deepen the color profile when I brought it into my editor, helping me to bring in more vibrancy and shadows to an otherwise flat image.
This is a photo I took of another Junior finishing end of the year work. To make it seem like an exit to junior year, I set it to a low shutter speed, moving the camera quickly to get a flowing motion of movement, illustrating how time is passing, and the end of the year, …
For this shot, I decided to do an up-close shot of my subject, on a table. Rather than shooting it from above, I put the camera at the same level as the phone and pencil, to give my shot more depth, with more background visible, compared with just a table. Then in photoshop, I tweaked …
For this photo of Oliver Markelz in first place, I took a photo of him in the middle of the back, and cut out all the people in front of him. I then duplicated him, and made him bigger (closer to the camera), and finally erased the first version of him. To make sure he …
To get this photo of time rushing past, I set the shutter speed to a really low value, and had many small lights in frame, which in combination with a fast camera movement, ended up with many small lights rushing past.
This is a photo of a 3200m race during a track meet. The quality is compressed by the website. To get this photo, I turned the shutter speed to be really fast, 1/3200, so that I could capture a clean image of these three runners.
This is a photo of Ivan Tse running the 1600 at a quad track meet. I used negative space, and did it over the shoulder of someone to emphasize his desperation, and build the distance between him and the next runners. This is another photo of Ivan with even more negative space. In this image …
For this photo, I combined an earlier photo that I took of a sunset, and another photo of Kevin Thompson running. To get the background blurred directionally, so it looked like he was running fast, I set it for a low shutter speed of 1/30, and took the photo, as I followed him. It took …
