Kira Aspen Narog
In 2019-2021 I attended Freestyle Academy. Freestyle is a special program offered in my high school district to juniors and seniors interested in digital arts. At Freestyle I developed skills in creative writing, story telling, music composition, etc. For two years I took Digital Media, English, and my chosen major of Animation. In Digital Media I explored several different applications and techniques using Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, Photoshop, Protools, and InDesign. In animation I developed my skills with 2D and 3D animation using Procreate, Dragonframe, Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter. Freestyle Academy gave me an opportunity to pursue my passion for art with a unique head start in college. I was given every possible opportunity to freely explore my creativity in an environment that pushed me to go beyond my best. In English class, I was given less structure to what normal high school English practices with assignments like the Lyrical Essay.
The pandemic introduced several issues when schools around the country had to shut down and go virtual. It was hard for me to stay motivated without the community of peers I was so accustomed to. However, my time in lockdown was not wasted. I took this time to develop my personal work in addition to Freestyle, creating new characters and using my narrative skills to introduce stories I could attach to them. I was also able to watch a lot of shows and movies which provided a lot of inspiration to my art.
I am extremely grateful to all my teachers at Freestyle who pushed and inspired me to to my best. They are responsible for helping me grow creatively and I will forever consider them as a milestone that lead me on a path of success. I hope you enjoy exploring my website!
