Portfolio

Painting of a forest in Photoshop. I wanted to capture the light and beauty of going on a hike. I was also inspired to keep my strokes broad and simple like impressionist painters. Mary Cassatt was an impressionist whom I did my “why art” essay about. From painting, to editing photos, I think my Photoshop skills have improved the most out of any application.

Light Box

This light box was meant to show a futuristic city, with a character in the foreground. It was inspired by the story of my world building project Paradox VI. In Paradox VI In a 21st-century city where AI technology powers monopolies and a corrupt government, a lonely girl becomes a spy for a bitter businessman wanting to tear down his rivals, seeking to expose the truth about the misuse of AI and hold those responsible accountable. The colors red and blue were very symbolic in this story representing the battle between chaos and order, so I used red and blue lights for my box.

Z- Brush Chicken and Skull

I sculpted this skull and chicken in Z-Brush. For each I started with a sphere, and used the different sculpting brushes to form the shapes and textures I wanted. Z-Brush can be quite fun and therapeutic much like hand sculpting.

Puppet Design

I made this character design inspired by the video game Dark Souls. I really liked how this game has knight character with armor based off of a specific animal or plant. I decided my knight would be inspired by a chicken. This decision creates irony because knights are typically expected to be brave and chivalrous, and chickens are associated with cowardice. I really played with this idea in my character bio.

I really enjoyed the puppet design for a variety of reasons, and I am also so proud of the finished product, it makes me happy every time I see it in the classroom. I loved the hands on aspect, building the puppet out of wire, tape, fabric and cardboard. If you have seen the 3D section of my “personal projects” page, you know I love to make animals and stuff out of cardboard. I really like the puzzle of figuring out what shapes to cut, how to bend them, and how they connect to other pieces. It was an especially fun challenge trying to craft a little armor set for my knight!
