Hi! My name is Mary Kate, and I attend Mountain View High School with a dual enrollment in Freestyle Academy of Communication Arts & Technology. At Freestyle, I am in the film program, where I learn to create different types of films including narrative, documentary, and experimental.
Outside of school, I work at an arcade called Hyperspace, where I host kids’ birthday parties. I love hanging out with my friends and family, volunteering, and playing lacrosse at my school. I am also involved in different clubs on campus. I am President of both Unhoused Awareness and Spartan Buddies. My favorite thing I do is working with kids with disabilities. I am additionally a TA for two special education classes, volunteer with Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Taiko every Saturday, help work at the Life Skills Summer School for students with disabilities, as well as plan meetings weekly for students with and without disabilities to become friends. I am also a member of the National Honors Society and on the board of National Charity League. I am very active on and off of the school campus and love to stay involved in my community.
Freestyle has made it possible for me to submit various films, including “Game Over” and “Happy Hearts,” to receive awards. Happy Hearts was chosen to be showcased in the All-American High School Film Festival, allowing me to share the voice of elderly people in my community. I am grateful that Freestyle gives me the ability to express my creative side, and a pathway toward learning all Adobe platforms and media skills.
