When I was about twelve years old, I was at my Grandparents house for summer vacation. A day before my departure, my grandpa called me to come to his room and said he wanted to show me something. He pulled out a dusty folder out of the drawer and to my surprise, it was his coin collection. I had heard of people collecting coins before but I have never seen an actual collection of them before. I started to get curious and ask about the variety of coins that was in the folder. My grandpa began telling different context and stories behind the coins. One was from the Tokyo olympics in 1964. One was even from the Taisho period of Japan. I was shocked to see the different intricate designs in the coins (like the dragon coin in the photo). I never knew that coins could look so fun and artistic. At the end, my grandpa took out some coins from the folder and handed them to me. I put them in a little capsule to not lose them. Sadly, this was one of the last moments I had with my grandpa, so i hold these coins close to my heart.
