Introduction

Hello and welcome to my Showcase! My name is Mia Florendo and I’m a second-year senior in Film at Freestyle Academy. Even at a young age, I loved being in front and behind the camera, and when deciding to do Freestyle, I knew Film Production would be my top choice. I enjoy taking videos of my life to look back on later, and Freestyle gives me a chance to express my creative side, which I very much love & appreciate.

Showcase Video

For my showcase video, I have decided to share my Laser Engraved Mandala. Although my Senior Narrative in Film was also a good production of mine, I chose to showcase my Laser Engraved Mandala because it was more special and unique to who I am. Over about a month, I worked on my Illustrator file that includes all my illustrations that would be included in my final mandala production. I had lots of fun testing out certain doodles, seeing which ones fit the others, and how the mandala looked overall. I loved this project because it gave me a chance to have fun drawing things I love, in a way that is more professionally presentable, in my case, engraved on a sheet of bamboo wood.

My plan for college is to major in Applied Mathematics at San Jose State University this upcoming fall!! My dream is to have a job related to mathematics and technology in the future, hoping to help innovate Silicon Valley even more. Even though I will be graduating from Freestyle, I would love to use my skills and techniques learned here in the future, making videos of my life and maintaining a creative mindset.

Showcase Reel

In my showcase reel, I decided to include my Explorations project, my Reflections video, my Lighting Looks, my documentary “Gender Euphoria”, my visual narrative, and finally my senior narrative “The Last Dance”. Throughout all these productions, I enjoyed exploring my creativity in different styles and familiarizing myself with the world of visual media.

Reflection

Throughout my 2 years at Freestyle, I have not only had so many opportunities to produce professional productions, but I have also enjoyed the process of making them with such amazing people. I have worked hard on all my student productions, but wouldn’t have been able to without the support I receive from people every day. Finding my creativity with people I love, and getting to share the experiences with them, I am so grateful that I have been a part of Freestyle Academy to finish off my high school career.
