  • Color Theory

This is an image of three photos I took that I photoshopped together. I edited the color of each of the photos and created a layer mask to stack them on top of each other and create a surreal affect.

  • Low Angles

This is a low angle photograph of maple leaves. I saw the way that the light bled through the leaves, and knew I had to take a photo! I used a lower f-stop to blur out the background, emphasizing the three big leaves at the front and center of the image.

  • Silhouettes

As it gets dark in the winter, I begin to see shadows everywhere. Even when it is bright, there is always shadow. I like these sillouettes I took because of the left vs right contrast. The left side is rounded, kind, soft, pleasant. the leaves are big, full of life. The right side, on…

  • Rule of Thirds Emotion

To me, this photo creates a feeling of serenity, of a magical, fantastical, natural world of ivy crawling up the trees whose branches twist and entangle into the sky. I like the appearance of the tree on the rule of thirds line, which is misshapen in several places, giving it an old, wise look.…

  • Gratitude

I am grateful for the time I have with my family and friends. I took this photo along the Wild Cat Canyon Trail at Rancho while hiking with my friend Don. As a Senior who will graduate from high school this spring, the threat of moving away for college is looming over. This is…

  • Who Inspires Me

I feel most inspired when I am outside in nature. This is a fawn that I saw while hiking, traveling along the slopes with its family. When it saw me, it stopped dead in its tracks, unsure if I was an enemy or friend. I find beauty in nature. When I walk through the…

  • Fill the Frame

The prompt for this photoblog was to “fill the frame.” I was inspired to fill the frame with tree branches, while also isolating a single object, in this case the telephone pole, using the rule of thirds. I like that the frame of the leaves creates an interesting shape and the lines of the…

  • My Culture

This is a photo of a Japanese “Omamori,” or good luck charm. They are meant to provide protection and good fortune. Omamoris can be made for different purposes. The one in this photo is meant for business success. You can never open an Omamori, because then it will (supposedly) lose its power. Many people…

  • Reflection Image

This is a reflection of the tree branches above me, in the horses’ water trough at Deer Hollow Farm. I focused the camera lens so that instead of focusing on the leaves, or the water, or the container, it was focusing on the reflection image. This is why the leaves and the sides of…

  • Exit

The bushes above line a path that leads your eyes out of the photo. This path is an exit, for your eyes to leave the picture. Now, as we head into our last weeks of school, this path represents our exit out of this school year, and into summer. This year at Freestyle has…
