Introduction

How is a significant person, or concept portrayed by the student?

For the Junior Documentary Project, we portrayed an important, interesting, and relevant person or concept and gathered primary and secondary evidence research sources about this concept. Using research, students developed a distinct perspective based on the subject’s influence on the world. This research paper from English is used as a copy for the magazine article in Design and a film, commercial, and website. This unit brings out narrative-style journalism.

For my Documentary Project, I interviewed a man named Enzo Sapojnikoff because of his mindset. I think he is important today because of how positive he stays throughout everything that happens in life and I think people have a lot to gain from this perspective. My vision for this project was to learn more about how pushing yourself to a goal can change your mindset. I was inspired to do this from Enzo himself, I have known him for years and wanted to look deeper into his motives and what keeps him going.

Enzo challenges himself with the sport of mountain biking. What I valued about doing this project was that I share that interest in biking and I wanted to see why he rode and how he managed biking in with everything else in his life. I also valued that fact that we have known each other for a long time but I finally got to sit down and learn about him. I feel like everyone can take something away from Enzo and learn from his motivation and his positive attitude.

For my research paper, I looked into Enzo as well as growth mindset in general and how it can help one’s motivation.

Design Class

For the Narrative unit in Design class, we made an advertisement based on the profile article we wrote in English. I made an ad for the type of bike that Enzo used for his Everest, which is called a specialized epic. The goal for this project was to make an advertisement that is clean and uses the elements of art and principals of design in mind.

To start this project, I made a mood board with an analogous color scheme and some pictures that I would possibly use for the final project. I created the ad by first placing the image and making the whole ad revolve around the image. I used Photoshop to mask out the rider to emphasize the bike, and I used Dafont to find a good-looking font for the title. I then created the specialized logo using Illustrator and made a text wrap around it for the slogan. I used Adobe InDesign to create both the moodboard (below) and the ad (above).
