This is the Music Recording project. In Digital Media, we were taught how to use ProTools to mix and edit a piece of music, and then take it one step further and record our own songs with musicians we reached out to. I reached out to my friend Katelyn Gainey, who plays guitar and sings. She performed an original song that she had written for her English class, called “Worlds Apart.” Below is the song and process of recording and mixing it!

Above is the completed audio file of “Worlds Apart,” as well as the album art cover I created for the song. It features two planets with the same colors but different arrangements, showing that they are connected but not the same.
The process of this project taught me a lot about music production, from the writing of the song to working with musicians and the actual recording process, to the mixing and editing to get the final product. I vastly improved my ProTools skills by practicing editing music during class before my session with Katelyn, so that I would be prepared. It was so cool getting to se her play and sing in action and helping her work out kinks in the process. I also had a lot of fun in the recording booth, learning how to use all of the equipment. Overall, I learned so much from this project and had a lot of fun!
