Hello! My name is Rachel Berry and I’m a Design student at Freestyle Academy. Outside of school and Freestyle, I enjoy staying active and spending time with my friends and family. I love music and concerts, spending time outside, and watching sunsets.

For my showcase project, I wanted to feature a project that I was proud of and that represented my time at Freestyle. Because of its interdisciplinary nature, many of my Freestyle projects have overlapping elements from my three classes: English, Digital Media, and Design. Ultimately, I decided on my Documentary Book project because it was based on work done in both English and Design, and I’m proud of how it turned out. I grew immensely throughout the process of creating this project, in both my English and Design skills, as well as my social skills.

Documentary Book

As a whole this project really pushed me as a writer and artist. Conducting interviews and taking photos of subjects was a new experience for me that I was nervous about going in, and I grew from the experience. I also learned a lot about staging subjects and thinking more about the logistics of photography. While designing my spreads, I really had to expand my thinking to imagine all the possible layouts while still balancing form and function.

Overall, Freestyle has taught me so much about creation and my own creativity, and has introduced me to a fantastic, supportive community. Below is my portfolio reel, which features my favorite and best works from my two years in Freestyle.
