Long Shutter Speed Exposure

10 f11 ISO100

This week, we were supposed to take a long exposure photo at night that celebrates the New Year. One of my family’s favorite New Year’s traditions is to have a fire in our fireplace and hang out together in front of it, playing board games and talking about good memories from the year that’s ending and sharing hopes for the new year. I treasure this time each year of family time in front of the warm fire. For this photo, I set my camera up on a tripod, at a safe distance from the fire, and put it on long exposure to capture the movement of the flames. I like the effect of the glow on the fireplace walls and the way that the fire seems to slow. Just like the fire captures many frames in this one image through long exposure, my family looks back together on many fond memories on New Year’s Eve.
