Explorations

The exploration projects required us to expand our knowledge on a skill we chose to learn or improve on. We needed to showcase how we created our projects and why we decided to do our creative topics.

For my project, I wanted to improve on Digital artwork. Still, I also found myself procrastinating, so I thought of making it a speed drawing of a series of works I made under a certain time limit, having a theme for some and others just free-hand drawing whatever came to mind.

Process

My first course of action was finding a storyboard template to go into Photoshop so I could section out each image I wanted to create.

I didn’t want to individual Photoshop files because I felt I couldn’t be able to complete the image or be too pressured to create something super meaningful, because meaningful wasn’t to goal; the goal was how visually appealing I could make a painting in a set amount of time.

For my first three frames, I only wanted 10 minutes because I didn’t know how it would go, whether I would run out of time or have too much time. I also didn’t want to use color because I knew I would overcomplicate things and never finish in time. So, I didn’t use a theme, so I had the most creative freedom to draw what first came to mind.

The next 3, I decided to use a theme and a color, but I aged myself 20 minutes. they all were easy and a good amount of time to produce, I was pretty proud of.

In the last row, I gave myself 30 minutes, but 2 drawings were with a theme, and my last one I wanted to be a quick sketch of my friend, and see where I went with that.

Reflection

This project has taught me how to create more appealing artwork digitally and improved my skills in digital composition.

This was a fun project to do and learn through trial and error, but overall, I love how much creative freedom I had, and I’m proud of how it came out.

Music Recoding

For this project, we needed to make a cover of a song of your choice. I decided to group up with my friend Jaidyn P, and we decided to cover Mamma Mia!

We decided to choose Mamma Mia because of how fun it was compared to some of our other options, where we would need to memorize more words, and it was just not what we wanted to do.

We went to YouTube to look for songs until we came across Mamma Mia and thought about it for a few days until we decided it was the easiest and most fun song to sing.

Before the official recording, we decided to do some practice sessions where we went into the booths to just sing with the karaoke version on YouTube so we could hear how some of the words were pronounced.

Reflection

I wish I had gone back and made the second half louder so you could hear me, but I loved the ending where we both sang, and having the funny laughing track softer under the final take.

Artist statement

For this Exploration Song project, we originally intended to cover the song “Chest Pain” by Malcolm Todd. But neither of us was familiar with the lyrics besides “I loveeee, I loveee” and so on. We weren’t sold on the song, so we kept brainstorming.

We eventually thought we should do something fun, so we continued looking for some familiar songs. In the end, we thought of Mamma Mia as we kept on thinking of summer coming up and Mamma Mia just being a fun and good movie, we decided it would be easy but fun to do with the time we had. We practiced for a few days and finally recorded it in the studio at Freestyle.

After a few takes, we got some good tracks, we also had a little photo shoot, and went back to edit the audio. Serenna created the album art, which was inspired by the iconic pants they wear in the movies. We both had a fun time making this amazing project.

Poem

I wanted to create a Poem that just rolled off the tongue, We got some inspiration from a visitor, Christine Moore, on types of poems and how to create them. We also learned how to brainstorm ideas for a starter poem using every skill we were taught by Christine Moore.

My poem was inspired by my dog, I wanted to be able to share my love for my favorite parts about him. He looks like a big meanie, but he's just a big sweetheart who loves to be loved. So now I present,

Sweet Heart

My dog Atlas, he had his breakfast
And with his big yawn he’s already out on the lawn,
Out the door past the dawn,
Four paws, big jaw,
One kick of a ball and he’s already at its beck and call.

My dog Atlas hes black and white
Brown and gold in the sunlight ,
Eating his chow looking like a big fat cow
Treats raining down
So he’s happy now.

Reflection

Doing this project was much more fun than I thought it was going to be. I have never really loved poetry because I could never get the full meaning of a poem and why it’s so meaningful. This unit taught me how to see more meanings within the poem, it showed me how it’s not just the words in the poem but the punctuation, how long the lines are, how it’s laid out on the page, and lastly, the story it can tell. I’m proud of what I made, and I’m super proud to present it to others, mainly because I want to show off my lovely dog Atlas.
