I wanted my friend to shoot a dunk, but she’s not tall enough, so I gave her the chance to make the shot. I wanted the background to feel like a yard, for a more homey vibe, like playing in your front yard as a kid. I did this a lot with my friend. To make the shot, I cut out a picture of someone making the basket. While I held the paper and shot in frame, I told her when to jump and choreographed her on how he should look mid-air, as this took too many tries. So I took a few landscapes, but the space felt too empty. I also had my hand in it, but it felt unsettling when it was there. Once I took my hand out, it felt more realistic and blended more with the rest of the picture.
