This week’s photo challenge was to color-grade a photograph to make it look like film. I saturated some of the colors, darkened the shadows, and increased highlights to bring out the different colors to achieve a film-like effect.

Storms
Rather than a picture of a storm, this captures the aftermath. It’s is not even after a real storm but instead, after a very light rain (a “California Storm”). Here, rain is always exciting. I like the colors in this photo as well as how the sky becomes bluer higher up in the frame, transitioning from grey to blue.
Culture
My culture is a mix of quite a few cultures –– mostly from my dad’s side of the family. Each one of us is very similar but also very different at the same time. This photo is from a recent trip up to our cabin near Arnold. It was the first time we’ve all been together in a long time and it was definitely a little chaotic (as it always is). I think this picture represents a little bit of the chaos but also a special moment –– and I think that represents my culture well.
Serenity
The prompt for this week’s photo blog was serenity. This is a photograph that I took on a walk in the evening––there’s something about the lighting and the calm of the water that makes this photograph feel serene.
Aging
The prompt for this week’s photo blog was aging. I took this photo on a hike at Big Trees State Park––It amazes me to think about how long these trees have lived.
#NoFilter
This week we had no limits on what to shoot, it just had to be unfiltered. This is a photo I took of my dad taking a photo –– pretty meta.
Negative Space
This week’s prompt was to use negative space in a landscape photograph. I think the negative space in this photo helps to emphasize the silhouette of the buildings against the sky.
Shadow Tells a story
This week’s prompt was to take a compelling photograph of a shadow. This is a shadow of a plant in my kitchen. For those walking past my house, its silhouette in the window appears monstrous. Its shadow appears more soft and intriguing.
Anonymous
I think it’s interesting how street art can have such a presence in a community –– even when the artists are often anonymous.
Center Frame Portrait
This is a portrait of a cat that lives in my neighborhood, I sometimes wonder if she is lonely. To stress the idea of being alone, I took the photograph in black and white.
