Hello! My name is Sukie Dakin, and I’m a Film student at Freestyle Academy. The classes at Freestyle that I’ve had the privilege to be a part of for the past two years have allowed me to grow and learn in so many ways. I’ve been able to immerse myself in the community around me and also not be afraid to take risks creatively in my classes. I’ve amassed a lot of knowledge whilst being here, which has also helped cultivate my passions for filmmaking, acting, writing, and visual storytelling.

For my Senior Showcase, I am proud to share my Junior Narrative and Senior Zenith films. These projects were the most challenging for me to create but also the most rewarding. My partner Isabella and I both connected through a mutual love for aesthetically pleasing shots and aimed to showcase that with our Narrative. We were both hands on with the pre-production aspects of the project, the writing and storyboarding, and we also shared the tasks of editing and creating our ideal final product. For my Zenith, I teamed up with a Design student who was creating her own clothing line for her project, so I made a film documenting the process. I tied in her own love for fashion in with many quotes and footage of famous designers, including the late Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld. I felt proud enough to showcase this project because I felt that I had improved the most professionally and creatively throughout the process of production.

I would really appreciate any feedback based on your experience watching these two films. Were either of the subject matters compelling enough to keep you engaged? Was the Narrative film easy to follow despite having no dialogue? Did the edits in the Zenith film add or take away from the experience? How could I still improve these pieces to make them more engaging?

This fall I will be attending Saint Mary’s College as a Business major. I’m grateful to be at a small, tight-knit school, and I’m also really excited for the studying abroad programs.
