INTRODUCTION SECTION

Zenith: the time at which something is most successful or powerful.

For the senior Zenith project, the task was to find a passion we had in relation to our elective classes, design, film or animation, and become more knowledgeable and skilled in that specific area. The project gave us a lot of freedom, but also taught us a lot of time management skills. We were given the job to create our own project, rubric, requirements, and deadlines to stay on task. It was ultimately fully up to us to complete a well executed project. 

My zenith project was inspired by the product design project we worked on earlier this year. I created product labels for a mockup honey company, and I really enjoyed the assignment. I wanted to use those skills and challenge myself further, so I decided to create 5 different ‘clothing collections’. Each clothing collection was small because I had limited time, but had it’s own aesthetic, t-shirt design, and sticker design. I envisioned my project to turn out slightly different than the actual result. But due to coronavirus, I was limited on the technology and resources I had to use to illustrate my designs. I initially was planning on digitally designing and illustrating each piece, but I ended up using a lot of photos and self portraits (because I didn’t have a model). Ultimately, I was proud of the final product (shown below), but there are some things I would have been able to touch up better if I was actually in class.

I was proud of the many challenges I was able to overcome and how I was able to problem solve and still create a project I was happy to share with everyone. I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop the most during this project, so I ultimately feel the most skilled in those applications.

PROCESS SECTION:

After proposing my idea to Ms. P, one of the very first assignments for this project was to create a calendar with deadlines. Here is my calendar filled with deadlines I submitted throughout my process.

One of my deadlines was to come up with a color scheme and aesthetic for each line. Here is the google doc I used to organize my ideas and inspiration shots.

I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for my projects. I mostly used Illustrator for the drawings and I used photoshop to edit the photos I used for some of the graphics.

I chose to work alone because I wanted to accomplish these skills on my own and get a sense of what I was capable of in terms of design and time management. Each clothing collection was small because I had limited time, but had its own aesthetic, t-shirt design, and sticker design. 

I didn’t have any specific artistic influences, but I was always inspired from shopping online or social media posts about clothing lines and doing research that way. I took note of what type of techniques designers used for different age groups and aesthetics and how it related with their viewers or shoppers.

If I could do this project over, I would prefer to find the proper design technology to do so and also print my graphics on actual clothing to see the final products. Because of Covid-19, I had trouble doing some of these things. Having the proper technology would also give me the opportunity to create more pieces to go within each aesthetic line. 

I really feel that I accomplished all of the project objectives; I was able to really ignite a passion for graphic design by learning even more skills to do so, and I also feel really proud of the final product. 

In the future, I can now definitely see myself working for a clothing company as a graphics designer, or honestly any company that needs merchandise or a logo design! I look forward to seeing how my Freestyle skills will help me with future jobs. I plan on majoring in graphic design in college and I feel more than prepared, thanks to Freestyle.
