< Color Theory is a huge part of composition that most photographers don’t explore. So it is time to explore it. Use Color Grading to create an image that looks like it is a still from a movie. >

For this assignment, I got inspiration from the dessert. On a weekend trip to Joshua Tree, driving through the desert and the National Park, the park was stunningly beautiful. I often stopped the car to set up my tripod and camera to take photos. Using my new FujiFilm TX-30ii, I captured photos that emphasize the contrast between the desert sands and the pale blues in the sky. This new camera has beautiful color-portal and with the on-camera film simulation, I was able to capture results I’m proud of.

Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree has been an inspiration to so many artists, from musical talents U2 and Pheobe Bridgers to contemporary artist- Andrea Zittel and the ultra-modern, mirrored architecture peeking out of desert outcroppings, and I see why. From the disorientingly empty landscape and vast nothingness, these alien-looking trees that are centuries old tower over the ground, and wind-swept rock formations pierce the horizon. The park is other-worldly.

Inspired by early-Hollywood films such as The Damned Don’t Cry! (1950) starring Mommie Dearest herself, Joan Crawford to modern movies like Don’t Worry Darling (2022) ft. Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, Chris Pine.
