Storytelling: Your Culture

This is a miniature replica of the Christus statue by Bertel Thorvaldsen. The actual statue is in the Lutheran Church of Our Lady in Copenhagen, Denmark. I got the opportunity to see that church on a trip my family took there a couple years ago. My family and I are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (unofficially called the Mormon church). Jesus Christ is the center of the church, and the Christus statue is a very popular statue among members of the church. The statue shows Christ with arms outstretched, inviting people to come to him. One unique aspect of this statue is that it depicts Christ after his resurrection. Most artwork about Christ show a dark, despair filled image of his crucifixion. The Christus statue is special because it shows a resurrected Christ rising triumphantly from the tomb. My family and I love the Christus because it is a symbol of hope.
