This is a bookshelf at my house. The shelf is full of children’s books from when I was a toddler. My parents used to read these books to me before bed. The book in focus is called Pickle-Chiffon Pie. It was one of my favorites to read back then, but most importantly, it was my Mom’s favorite book to read to us. The book starts with a king telling three princes that whoever brings back the best gift can marry the princess. The story follows prince Bernard, who doesn’t have any talents. The two other princes bring back cool animals and a giant to the king. Prince Bernard tries to bring an animal who can bake pickle chiffon pie, but decides not to because the animal would have to leave his family. When they go back to the king, the king chooses prince Bernard even though he didn’t bring a gift, because prince Bernard learned to be kind. A couple years ago the book went out of print. My Mom loves this book and decided to buy five of the last printed copies of it. When my siblings and I grow up, we will each have a copy of Pickle Chiffon Pie to read to our kids.
