Hometown. This was a hard prompt for me. Rather than taking a picture of some landmark of our small, boring town, I decided to take an image that reminded me of how it feels to be here. Growing up traveling back and forth between California and Ohio, there was a sense of perpetual bittersweetness to be constantly leaving and going home. California is one of my hometowns, and leaving Ohio to come here is always tinted with that bittersweetness, a similar sensation to biting into a not quite ripe orange.

As well as this sensation, I chose to take a picture of an orange because California means family to me; coming home and seeing my grandma is always the happiest feeling. My grandma has a huge orange tree in her front yard. They are so good that passersby would steal them when walking by her house. Her fresh squeezed orange juice means home.
