I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “laughter is the best medicine” before. But here’s the thing- it’s not just the best medicine. Through this unit I have learned how impactful and diverse humor really can be. To kick off this unit we read Slaughterhouse 5 which used satire, dark humor, and blue humor to poke fun of war and society. Although this humor is not my favorite, it was very eye-opening.

For my humor project, I wanted to do something upbeat and light-hearted. I decided to make a music video and a parody of Mr. Taylor’s song, “Nathalie’s song.”

Since Kurt Vonnegut was not my style, I sought out my own comedic inspirations to model my project after. I chose Studio C and the Holderness Family, and specifically looked at their work with parodies.

Reflection:

Overall, I thought this was a great project! It was rewarding to use so many of the skills I had learned throughout the last few years: ProTools, Premiere, scripting, editing, and writing was just the beginning! Another thing that made this so satisfying was that so many people were willing to come together and make it happen!
