Portfolio

During my last year at Freestyle, I completed numerous projects that I am proud of and would like to show the world. Through these projects, I was able to master the use of applications like Maya, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Below are some of the many projects I enjoyed this year.

Laser engraved mandala.

To create this mandala, I first designed it in Adobe Illustrator. For the patterns outside of the two koi in the center, I only had to draw it once and it was drawn on the other 11 sections. I’ve always been captivated by koi fish whenever I see them and I had recently visited a koi pond, which was how this idea came to be. This was one of my favorite projects this year because I liked the idea and it turned out well.

Pastel painting in Photoshop.

This was one of our first projects this year. It was definitely time consuming, but I think that all the details I was able to capture made the piece good. I essentially just copied a reference, but this project helped me understand digital art better and improve my skills in Photoshop. I found that I tend to do artwork that is related to food, but I love it every time.

Time-lapse of multi-layered art.

For this multi-layered wood art, I was inspired by the movie, “My Neighbor Totoro.” I first designed my project in illustrator; it consisted of art on multiple layers. Each layer was then laser cut and I assembled the pieces together using wood glue. This project took many steps, but I enjoyed each one and I’m happy with the outcome and I’m glad I chose this theme.

Dagger and sheath in Maya.
Character in Maya.

For both the weapon and character, I designed them in Maya first. They started off as really basic models until I imported them into ZBrush and added texture and details. I then added color in Substance Painter. Finally, I imported them back into Maya and rendered them with lighting and backgrounds.
