Mandalas

Mandalas

For our first project of the Reflections unit, we were told to make our own mandalas using Adobe Illustrator. We created these templates that can be used for making mandalas with eight, ten, twelve, and sixteen slices. We used the brush tool and a clipping mask to create repeating and reflecting patterns.

When making these mandalas, as a first year senior, I valued learning about the new programs. I liked looking through the different pre made color palettes on Illustrator and playing around with the different kinds of lines I could make. I didn’t quite like the mandala process as a whole because a lot of the software is hard for me to sort out at the moment.

When I was making this, I learned that I can figure out how to use the software faster if I have someone who can show me what to do over a screen share. Also, this project served as a unique exercise and taught me to think of art differently.
