Hello, my name is Christian Lanni, and I am an animation student at Freestyle Academy. Over the past year, I have found a passion for 3d modeling, texturing, and rendering. When I am not in class, I am usually either working, on YouTube, or practicing 3d modeling and texturing, taking time on each step of the process IE, modeling, texturing and then rendering.

 

I am excited to share an animated narrative from my Junior Year and my portfolio. Since I want to be a 3d model and texture artist, I am more proud of the work I accomplished in that area of work, rather than the narrative

 

For feedback, I would like to know what the next steps are for me to improve in 3d modeling and texturing. My current pipeline for creating a finished product is Maya>ZBrush>Substance Painter> and then IRAY which is built into substance painter. What tools should I incorporate into my process that would help me? Specifically on rendering, where could I go to find tutorials on rendering, other than YouTube, which isn’t as much help as I want it to be. IRAY acts more as a crutch, which allows me to create refined images, but only that.  

 

Next year, I plan on going to Foothill Community College. Then, after a year of continued practice, I intend to apply to an art school with a 3d modeling and texturing program, such as Gnomon. Before I apply, I plan on improving as much as possible in all aspects of 3d art. Eventually, I want to be a 3d modeling and texture artist.

The first video is my narrative animation from last year. Overall, I’m happy with the timing. Feedback on this work would be taken with grace.

 

below is some of the work I’ve done in 3D. The rendered work is what I am most proud of, as it is also my most recent. Overall, my work in 3D is still very much immature, since there’s still so much to learn. I’m slowly getting better at modeling texturing and rendering, but I believe that the ways I need to improve most currently are with rendering and creating my own textures, as right now my textures are taken from the internet.
