This week, we were told to take a shot in black and white. I took a picture of this messy windowsill, which I had hoped would bring a lot of eclectic oddities together with the lack of coloring. I also wanted to use this shot for that many different shades of grey that come out when it is desaturated.
This week’s prompt was leading lines, so I used a large capacity oboe reed case to show all the parallel lines (explicit and implicit) leading off the frame, as opposed to toward a subject. Though, this photo lacks interest and questions how worthwhile it was.
This week’s prompt was to tell a love story, which I tried to show between two cranes. One is in focus, poor and crippled, who watches another atop a tower of coins. That being said, the exposure and focus of this shot is completely off- there is almost no detail that isn’t swallowed up, and I would love to redo this shot in an environment with more light so more detail and subtlety could come through.
This week we were shooting to show weight or mass. I chose to shoot a dandelion, as the seeds are often a defining image of something being “lightweight.”
This is a photo of a large open walking road at SJSU. I wanted to use a lack of focus to get a nice effect out of the various lights, but I think the lack of those lights made the effect very underwhelming- there is also no focal point that is very obvious.
This week’s topic was “warmth,” so I wanted to use this candid that I took of Victoria Lam doing homework outside in San Jose State University- as she worked despite the cold outside, in a warm long sleeved sweater.
This week we took photos of something that showed our mood- I decided on this whimsical looking glass owl, as there was nothing terrible happening for me. This week just sort of floated by.
This shot was meant to capture motion, while using the rule of thirds. I tried to show this in afterimages of myself, while approaching a point which is a third in from the left- I did this by leaving my camera on a tripod, and cranking the shutter-speed pretty far down.
This photo was to take a shot that shows a depiction of myself, without showing my face. I chose to take a picture of my oboe, which plays a large role in my life and also parallels with it as well.
