This is the page in which art that has been made in Photoshop will be, whether that be through heavily altered photo editing, or painting, or anything, really…

Surreal Lighthouse
This is my surreal composition, which started as a simple idea of a lighthouse with planets- but I decided to add cats, just to give it some more surrealism… If you want to see a comparison from the old lighthouse to the new one, see the Fancy Displays! page under the SR dropdown. Not included here because it’s a bit buggy and doesn’t love different screen sizes….
We’ve done quite a bit of Photoshop image compositing, but I think this is my best piece of it thus far (and it isn’t perfect, obviously.) I was able to put together an old photoblog post with one that I took on a separate trip, and I wanted to make my friend look like someone just hanging out in my front yard- especially with all of the overgrown textures, I thought it would be a good candid. To make this happen, I took the bench photo and color corrected it until it matched the lighting situation of the background- then cut out that part and brought it into the environment, editing and blurring where needed. The lighting positioning being almost correct helped a lot, and the lack of proper aperture in the background also helped match the focus a bit more, too…
I’m not a painter, first and foremost, so doing this project was pretty unfamiliar. The first thing that I knew to do was to do a watercolor background, because I messed around with the idea in my practice projects- but beyond that, I wanted to experiment. I decided to do a tree, because I found that the textures created through the lines tangling looked like a tree with a rippling trunk- to fill out the leaves, I used a splatter brush with yellow (because green leaves on trees are boring.) Beyond that, I decided to add a couple of clouds and a background to show a better scale for the piece- which I’m not sure if it worked so well.
