Photo Blog: Seasons

Picture of a grey-barked tree with a small cluster of brown leaves.
For the seasons, I decided to take a picture of a dead tree to show winter (considering that we don’t have snow around here). In execution, I found this set of leaves that I thought looked really nice and showed an exceptionally “dead” quality (with a neat color).

Photo Blog: Color Without Color

A low angle of a stone walkway with citrus on the ground, next to some sticks.
The prompt was to tell a colorful story in black and white, which I found to be quite challenging. The concept here is a look into my family’s life, in which we always forget to pick up lemons along the side of our house.

Photo Blog: Family

Picture showing an NZXT PC piece as well as white lighting, showing off wires and parts of a computer.
My brother makes computers, so I thought it would be interesting to take a photo inside one of them. That being said, it proved more difficult than I hoped- the lighting was weird, and the large windows that let viewers see inside for the parts would take a lot of glare- which I wasn’t really able to get rid of in an analog fashion…

Photo Blog: Culture

Close up picture of a mellophone for the mouthpiece, with highlights running across the yellow pipework.
For this picture, I wanted to do it about some kind of music- but I do normally do oboe related pictures often, and I wanted to change it up- and talk about marching band, which is also integral to me. That being said, the low light settings and my apprehension to ISO really messed up the focus here… so for a revision, I’d really like to do this some time later, with better lighting; not only for the shutter speed being more forgiving, but also with a better aperture that would allow for more of this mellophone to be in focus.

Photo Blog: Freedom

Open shot of the sky, with few clouds, with lots of trees in the suburbs below.
I was pretty conflicted for how to show “Freedom,” so I was fist looking around for a higher place to take a photo from, or some kind of way to shoot from a claustrophobic area into an open one. I ended up opting for this wider open shot though, and hopefully the open blue gives a sense of *ah* liberation and freedom… or something….

Photo Blog: Stranger

Looking down the line of a school, heavily shaded with lots of overgrown vegetation on the right side.
This was a challenging prompt, and so for it I decided to choose to show something unfamiliar. This shot of my old elementary school would have been something I remembered well, considering I went there for most of my life, but I never actually remembered taking any classes along this line… so the area is not totally “stranger” to me, but in some ways, it is.

Photo Blog: Aging

Blue chest with a large lock on it made from brass or a similar metal.
I wasn’t super sure what to do with this shot, but this chest is full of random toys that I use to play with from when I was younger- nowadays I barely open it, as it is buried under heavier boxes full of old schoolwork.

Photo Blog: Shadow

Lamp casting a star-like shadow onto the wall in the dark.
I wasn’t super happy with this photo, I wasn’t really sure what to do but thought that the shadows cast by this lamp would look neat- but composing this shot was far more difficult that I thought it would be.

Photo Blog: New Beginnings

Water droplets on a metal handlebar at Pearl Harbor
This week’s photo prompt was to show “New Beginnings.” For this, I used a photo of these water droplets after the rain at Pearl Harbor- You can interpret it as you wish.

Photo Blog: Hometown

Orange tree leaves with oranges, with a bright sky background
This tree is very representative of “home” for me, as it was there since the beginning- but also our neighborhood has a bunch of these trees, so I guess it’s symbolic of our area. In any case, I really liked the colors and the nostalgic softness of the shot.
