Climbing Ladders

I made this film to document my experience of climbing the snake dike route on Half Dome in Yosemite with my friends and my father. There were a few details I left out because they weren’t really my story to tell. If I had more resources and time I would have interviewed my friends to have them share their specific stories. Trevor for example did some crazy lead climbing that I would have liked to include.

I didn’t make this film for any specific class, this was a personal project. I still wanted to give freestyle a shoutout because they gave me access to sound effects and a computer with video & audio editing software which I used to make this film.

I also used some Ben Marriott tutorials for the animated portions of this video. Here is the main video I followed to make my effect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49yGM

Animated painting

In my Digital Media class, I made a pastel style painting using Photoshop. As I made it I thought it would be cool to animate it using After Effects, so that is what I did. Here it is:

Chapman Application film

Here is the short two-minute film I made for Chapman. It was a bit challenging to pull this off because of COVID and all but I was fortunate to have some great actors, my friend Michael and my hairdresser Tommy.

I’m applying to their film production major so I had to make a film following this prompt:

Without using dialogue or voice over, make a film that is under two minutes and is about a character making a difficult and dramatic decision.  Show that the character is pulled in two different directions at an emotional level, visualize their process of consideration and show that they make a decision.

Bridge Club, club week video

I wanted to give my favorite MVHS club (and the only MVHS club I am a member of) a properly epic video to entice new members. I’m hoping this video will allow the bridge club to thrive or at the very least gain more respect. We’ve gathered a bit of a reputation for being basically nonexistent. I spent quite a while making the graphics in Illustrator and After Effects, but Bridge Club is worth it.

Summer animations

This summer in 2020 I started learning more tricks in After Effects by following youtube videos. I’ve always really liked 2D animation and thanks to freestyle I had the supplies to try it out. I also didn’t have much else going on this summer thanks to COVID-19. Here are some of the results:

Storytimes with Gramps

I visited my Grampa over the February break and while I was there I asked to film him. I’m hoping to film him for a bigger documentary project sometime in the future but in the meantime, I filmed some of his classic beloved stories.
