Zenith

Introduction

The Zenith project, as I understand it, is supposed to be one of our most polished projects at freestyle. In film class, I was told that Zenith means something along the lines of “pinnacle” because this project should ideally be one of our most high-quality projects.

The other aspect of Zenith is that is very self-guided since we choose our own projects. As some of my fellow classmates might remember I care a lot about my gramps and have wanted to make a documentary about him for a long time. I’ve been trying ever since the documentary project of my junior year. Well, the time has finally come.

Process

The first step was to prepare interview questions for my two lovely grandparents and then to drive over to ask them while the camera was rolling. Then once I had the footage and audio I got to work compiling it. In total, I had two and a half hours of interview footage of my grandparents and while I enjoyed talking to them, I knew I wasn’t going to make a feature-length documentary so I had my editing work cut out for me. I also dove into the realm of frame-by-frame animation for the first time with this project which was a new challenge for me.
