Mood Before Class

I found extracting an idea from this week’s photo challenge quite difficult, since I do not usually use any filters or make any edits on my photos- I prefer the lighting, color, etc. to be representative of the actual conditions under which the moment was captured. So, I interpreted this prompt in a slightly different way. I would capture an unfiltered reaction from peers.

This photo depicts two of my friends, Sky and Hector, just moments before the beginning of class. The difference in their moods is apparent through their facial expressions and stances. Hector’s hair is down and unkempt: proof that this photo was a spontaneous and unprompted glimpse at these two. I did not ask either of them to pose, but they did so because they felt it would reflect better both on their appearances and my photography skills.

I like this photo and the fact that it immortalizes a seemingly trivial moment in time, and imbues it with fresh meaning and context. I only wish that Sky and Hector hadn’t posed.
