38. Low Angles

Empire State Building, Night

This was taken during a trip to New York City, obviously. Coming upon the base of the Empire State Building, it was impossible for me to resist taking a photo of its imposing figure, especially when illuminating by bewitching purple light. In many ways, viewing something from an extremely low angle can give one the same vertigo as looking down from a very high place, as the same distortion of perspective occurs.

I am very pleased with the end result of this photo. I tilted the frame to a dutch angle to add a sense of unease and instability to the composition, increasing the feeling of dizziness and disorientation. The lighting in this photo is completely unedited- I am very thankful whoever is in charge of lighting the Empire State Building was feeling evil that night, because it made of a terrific photo.
