An emotion as complex as love warrants a high level of metaphor and symbolism, which is why so many things have come to represent the feeling. One such item closely associated with love is the rose- I knew I definitely wanted to include a few in my composition. Hearts definitely also symbolize love, and presents can as well to an extent.
I set up my composition to give the impression that the viewer is on the outside, looking into a story from a concealed vantage point. I chose bright, saturated reds because red is the color of passion and intimacy. I chose to obscure the bag in the background and keep it out of focus to enhance the depth of the composition. I also left the foreground roses slightly blurred, because love apparently makes you dizzy. There is also symbolism of two lovers as the two roses, gazing longingly at each other.
I’m happy with this photo and I think it did a good job at representing a love story. Or maybe it didn’t. I don’t know what love is.
