When a “new beginning” is mentioned, I first think of a spiritual or religious awakening. Many people find comfort and solace in faith, and redefine themselves based around said faith. So, for my photo based on the concept of a new beginning, I wanted to feature themes of religion heavily. To do so, I chose an angel figure as the subject of my shot. The angel gazes skyward, at the Heavens, and there is ample negative space at the top of the photo, occupied by the clear blue sky.
There are two other elements of the photo which I used to portray the feeling of a new beginning. The first is the prominence of foliage and plants, whose cyclical life cycle I perceive to represent a new beginning very strongly. The second is the flame which the angel holds, and the fact that the candle is full and has only just started burning- it is at the ‘beginning.’ The candle flame also provides. focal point, and the candle itself directs the viewer’s gaze upward to the Heavens as well.
I think the church would be proud of my positive and hopeful portrayal of Christianity in this image.
