12. Trash

Woe to Thee!

There is not much in trash from which I find great inspiration, but I suppose that is the point of the challenge. It was very difficult to capture an interesting photo with such a mundane subject, so I decided that I would create visual interest with the focus of the image. I find the prompt of trash quite silly, so I decided to take a comedic tone to the photo. I am definitely not particularly fond of the sight and smell of trash, so I figured I would make it the “antagonist” of the photo, so to speak.

I decided to have my pointed finger and hand be the focus of the shot, and the subject- the trash- be in the background out of focus. The only thing which would imply that the trash is the area of interest is the leading line of my finger, beckoning attention to it. This way, I am able to make what’s out of the focus of the camera into the focus of the viewer, in a cleaver juxtaposition.

I like this photo, and had fun making it. I also had fun contributing the Nilla Wafers to the trash heap.
