22. Stranger

Traveler

There can be no greater stranger to man than nature. Humanity, in its very essence, works against nature, striving for new ways to surpass, conquer, and separate itself from it. There is an inherent divide between us and the plants and animals found in nature, not in the least because we also can’t communicate properly.

This photo opportunity, as could probably be guessed, was not planned in the slightest. This young buck simply happened upon me during a hike, and he was surprisingly passive and docile. I took the opportunity and captured him. I think the leaves surrounding him act as a good natural frame for the subject, while also diversifying an otherwise bland color palette with greens and yellows.

I’d like to thank the buck for his contribution to this photo- he was a wonderful model.
