Balenciaga, Baby!

The Humor project was our last unit in English, and was entirely designed for us to just have fun with it. We started off the unit by reading “Slaughterhouse-Five” by Kurt Vonnegut. We had group discussions while reading the book and analyzed the different humor techniques Vonnegut used throguhout the novel, as well as his reasons for writing it. As we learned more about humor, we were required to study two humorists of our choice and analyze their techniques. Finally, we made our own piece of humor, either by ourselves or in a group. I again chose to team up with Lulu Duarte and Rachel Berry for this project.
Group Humor Project
We had complete creative freedom with this project, as long as we used specific humor techniques and it was appropriate. This was so much fun, but also a challenge to narrow down our options. Finally, the three of us decided we were going to mimic reality tv for our humor project. We got our inspiration from shows like “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “Dance Moms,” and used caricature and absurdism as our main humor techniques.

Reflection
This was one of my favorite projects this year. I was extremely hesitant at first since I had a ton going on and wasn’t super comfortable with the idea of presenting my sense of humor to my peers. After brainstorming with Lulu and Rachel though, I started getting more excited and energized around the project. We all had really tight schedules and it was extremely difficult finding time to film, but we eventually made it work with a lot of spontaneity and last minute meet ups. I’m super happy with how the project turned out and am so glad this is what we ended on! It was a blast!
