Funny Compositions
For the start of this unit, we learned how to use Adobe Photoshop and created funny compositions. Mine are pretty random, but I learned a ton throughout the process!

Multi-Layered Art Project
Next, we dove into a multi-layered art project where we got to choose between creating ring art, stacked wood art, or a lightbox design. I chose to make a lightbox. This project was supposed to be inspired by our worldbuidling project. Since our story was about women being oppressed and controlled, I wanted to mimic that feeling of fear and captivity in my layered art.
We started by sketching our designs by hand, then brought them into Illustrator to create the final digital version. After that, we sent the design to the laser cutter, which precisely carved out our artwork. Here’s an image of the digital version of my finished lightbox:

I met plenty of obstacles during this project, but I got a lot of help and was eventually able to work through them. I’m very happy with how it turned out! Below is an image of the final product, as well as my artist statement for this piece.
The Hunt:

ARTIST STATEMENT:
“The Hunt” is a multi-layered light box that explores the reality of women being pursued and punished for claiming their rights. The scene unfolds in a dark, layered forest—a place both natural and symbolic—where a woman in a dress runs while a man stands behind her in the trees. This visual tension captures the feeling of being watched, followed, and threatened simply for existing in our world today. Inspired by centuries of systemic control over women’s bodies and voices, the piece reflects a world where empowerment is often met with fear and retaliation. The forest becomes a psychological landscape, representing the emotional terrain women must navigate when asserting their freedom.
Our world-building project centers on a society where women have no control over their own lives. The protagonist must confront this oppressive structure and find the strength to defy deeply ingrained societal norms. The Hunt connects directly to this vision, portraying a bleak, and hopeless landscape that mirrors the emotional and psychological weight of such a world.
