Tell a Lie

The camera has an excellent way of capturing emotion, but it can also fake emotion. I chose to portray a lie that the camera can tell by exaggerating the emotion of sadness. In filmmaking, fake tears are often used to depict sadness. I chose to mimic that through photography.

Angles

Rather than choosing to take a picture at eye-level with the subject, I decided to complete the “Angles” prompt by shooting from above. I found that this made for a more attentive, curious subject. It makes the camera feel more present.

Stranger

Sometimes meeting someone new can feel completely strange. Introducing yourself to a stranger isn’t so different from introducing yourself to an entirely different species – you need to learn how best to interact and how best not to.

Serenity

Serenity means something different for everyone. To me, environment is a huge part of serenity. This picture of Cafe Du Nord features calming lighting and pleasant objects. Since music also has a large effect on my mood, I thought to include instruments in this image, as they are serene to me.

Golden Hour

1/50 f16 ISO800

As the sun was about to set, I took this picture capturing the heat of a hacky sack tournament. Shooting photography at golden hour heightens the color properties of oranges and blues, making for a “glowier” feel.

Shadow

1/50 f2.8 ISO800

All of the subjects in this photograph silhouettes – a world swallowed by shadow. This adds an air of mystery to the picture – you aren’t really sure of the story, but you want to know more.

Eyes

1/50 f4.0 ISO200

For the “Eyes” Photo Blog assignment, I chose to take a picture of my dad’s eye. The shallow depth of field allows his eye to take center stage; every element drawing the viewer towards his eye.
