Inspiration

Future

My future will take me to New York. I took this picture over the summer, the last time I was there. In this picture, I was surrounded by filmmakers, exactly as I will be starting next fall as a film major at New York University. I also appreciate how this picture captures the New York City skyline, a visual of possibility and opportunity.

Musical

For this week’s photo blog, Mr. Flo tasked us with representing how “music is part of the soul.” I’ve never found this statement to be more true than when I’m at a concert. There’s something about experiencing music with a crowd of others that I find very soulful. It’s something that brings people together, and it is the collective effervescence of groups like that that really fosters appreciation for the art.

Small vs. Large

This is a picture that I took of my friends CC, Ellie, and Elsa. In composing this photograph, I wanted to create some contrast between my models. By staging CC closer to the camera, I was able to give the effect that she was larger than Ellie and Elsa, who appear smaller in the frame.

The Elements

I photographed fire as my choice of element, as I find beauty in it’s provision of eternal warmth. Since the beginning of time, we’ve relied on it for survival, congregated around it, and even celebrated it. Even as technology grows and heat is harvested from electricity, we know we can always come back to fire. We still use it to survive, congregate around it, and celebrate it.

Gratitude

I am most grateful for friendship and community. I took this picture of some of closest friends (Ellie, CC, and Elsa), so take a snapshot of our friendship. I am grateful for the excitement, love, and, and fun that they bring to my life. I am grateful that I have friends like them.

Who Inspires You

50mm 1/125 f11 ISO400

When asked the question “who inspires me,” my only response is creative people. I love being surrounded by a landscape of likeminded people who contribute to the creative elements of life. I find that it these people who promote and encourage my own creativity, and I feel the most inspired around them. This picture was taken in New York, the cultural hotspot of the world and the place where I have found the highest population of these people. It is a city of innovation and imagination.

Reflection Image

I think that one of the most beautiful things in life is the way that light reflects against water. I can think of no better place to watch a sunset than the beach. It almost appears as though as one sun sets, another rises.

Exit

For my “Exit” Photo Blog, I wanted to utilize what I learned from the “Center Frame Portrait” prompt. By doing this, I am highlighting that our exit from junior into senior year is daunting, and has a lot of unknown.

Tell a Lie

The camera has an excellent way of capturing emotion, but it can also fake emotion. I chose to portray a lie that the camera can tell by exaggerating the emotion of sadness. In filmmaking, fake tears are often used to depict sadness. I chose to mimic that through photography.

Serenity

Serenity means something different for everyone. To me, environment is a huge part of serenity. This picture of Cafe Du Nord features calming lighting and pleasant objects. Since music also has a large effect on my mood, I thought to include instruments in this image, as they are serene to me.
