Introduction
I really loved that this was the unit we ended on. In this section, we explored the idea of “How can you find, explore, and/or expand your passion?” Thanks to Freestyle I have grown so much as an artist and as a person, the work I was able to produce is something I am really proud of and the best time I think I’ve had this year because there was so much left to my own devices. The vague prompts allowed me to explore creative facets of myself that I have yet to delve into. I explored my thoughts on femininity, being a friend, and just expressing myself in general and it was a great way to reflect on how I’ve grown this year.
Lyrical Essay
This lyrical essay was the result of a notes app late night word vomit and receiving the assignment the morning after. I knew I wanted to get a deeper grasp on the emotions that had come to bay as I started to reflect on my personal growth and scope of events that had been surrounding me at the time. I aimed to write this in a way that would make sense as I performed it aloud since the presentation aspect of me is second nature. It is more poetic than anything, and feels like it just scratches the surface of being a teenage girl.

Music Production
Ben and I decided to create this because it played to both of our experiences as musicians. We weren’t sure what to do about this song so we threw a couple ideas out there and landed on this song that was a mix of basic pop and harmonious chords.

This song a really important to me because of Renee Rapp’s influence in the side of me that loves to perform. I love learning different artistic styles and this was a great challenge to mix and work with a totally new partner in a short period of time. I was stumped on the song to cover so I called up my voice coach for some advice and am really proud of how this turned out.
Explorations Project
For the explorations project, film students were tasked to research an aspect of filmmaking that we are relatively unfamiliar with. I really enjoyed this experience because I got to expand my knowledge and have a newfound appreciation for the art of costuming and the way it is a very under appreciated aspect of filmmaking. Something I also noted was keeping a small, sustainable budget as an independent filmmaker.
