Humor

For this Unit we were expected to explore different types of humor through reading the novel Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut and researching our own comedians that we found funny. From here we chose our groups and were able to create our own humor project. My partner and I chose to collaborate and make a music video for a parody song we originally wrote last year in Digital Media. It was a cute full circle moment.

This project was pretty last minute but really fun to create and put together! I loved the creative freedom and being able to use past Freestyle projects and incorporate them into my last english assignment. We ultimately had two weeks to work on this project as we took more time reading and responding to the book. It was great to have feedback at the end of the presentation and hear people laugh!

This project was fun to make as the previous week we spent very late nights at school and had lots of video evidence which I asked other Freestyle students to submit to implement into our video! The humor techniques in our video included parody to the song Goosebumps by Travis Scott, Blue humor with one of our friends pants “falling down”, and absurdity with many random clips and effects to keep the audience engaged and taken by surprise.

Humor Proposal:

Kevin Hart: Click to see clips of him in Jumanji
Weird Al: Click to watch the Amish Paradice Video

Above are the two chosen humorists that I choose. Kevin Hart a comedian and actor has created many amazing works but I wanted to highlight film Jumanji and showed many funny moments throughout. The main humor styles he showed in this movie was Slapstick Humor which is a type of comedy involving exaggerated, extreme physical violence or activities which exceed the boundaries of common sense. For example, his character is being hit in the face with a heavy frying pan or running into a brick wall my favorite scene is when he gets run over by Rhinos and explodes because he is allergic to cake. My second humorist is Weird Al Yankovic. During class, this video was shown and immediately I found interest in this type of humor. The humor technique shown is Caricature. Throughout this entire music video there was lots of mockery of Amish people based on the outfits worn, the setting of the video, and the parody of lyrics sharing their lifestyle habits. The second humorist I chose is Weird Al. The humor techniques I saw frequently is Caricature. Throughout this entire music video there was lots of mockery of Amish people based on the outfits worn, the setting of the video, and the parody of lyrics sharing their lifestyle habits. The second technique is Dramatic Irony. The video shows a guy looking at his watch, but because they are Amish it is actually just rock that tells time. This made me laugh because it fit so well for the theme of the music video and was a funny touch.

We knew we wanted to document shots of a bunch of papers everywhere showing the surplus of work. In addition, we gathered pictures and videos from current freestyle seniors. Some of the pictures were the timestamps of how late we stayed to do work. I even shot candid videos of students hard at work in the film room. I added lots of effects in CapCut. We recorded our song last year in the Music Studio and made to incorporate videos that matched our creative song lyrics!
