Narrative Visual Perspective in Design:

Logo/Triptych for custom brand

This was one of the longest projects I worked on in Design. Being a first year in Design I had a lot of new exposure to the different Adobe applications such as Illustrator and InDesign. There were many parts to this project where it started from brainstorming what your product was. We then created Mood boards for the aesthetics of the company. For anyone who knows me they know I love ranch. I rave about it all the time, review it at any restaurant I go to, and most of all own multiple articles of Ranch clothing. I knew right away what I wanted to create. I wanted a Mediterranean vibe sort of like Mama Mia feeling with blues and white. With help from Ms. P I decided to use a Mediterranean Arch to surround my main design. I felt a cookbook was a good object to place my product on as there is so many things you can put ranch with. The kitchen towel I thought would work great with the cookbook as with cooking there will be lots of washing hands, dishes, and more to use that kitchen towel. I had to revise this multiple times as I wasnt fully able to grasp the main concepts of logos and labels but eventually created something I was proud of.

Mood-board, label, and advertisement

This month-long process consisted of mood boards, morgues, logos, labels, and more. We first started with a mood board. This is where we found inspiration for what we wanted to, finding pictures of the aesthetics we wanted to achieve. When starting my MoodBoard I wanted a vintage old European vibe for my label. I created a folder and filled it with Mediterranean tiles, watercolor vegetables, and many old food labels. After finding these images I had to create a color scheme. Looking at other ranch labels there were prominent hints of blues and greens. I followed this and created my color scheme using Adobe Color. The next step was to put all these together in a mood board which consisted of the images from my morgue, the color scheme, and my tile of the ranch. After this was done, we moved onto our Logo sketches. Taking what I created from my mood board I constructed a Logo using Adobe Illustrator. This was such a fun process bringing my ideas to life. Although I had some issues with spacing I was happy with the turnout. Then came the most important part of this whole project, creating the label. I had such a hard time with this process as my old ideas weren’t coming out the way I expected them to and it wasn’t looking right. I ended up having to leave my vision in the past and try something new. I restarted and ended up loving my new Label. Using Placeit.com, I brought my ideas to life by putting them on a recipe book, kitchen towel, and of course the ranch bottle!

WaterColor Name Fine Art Project

This project is by far my favorite project Ive done in Design. Using Photoshop and it’s Symmetry tool, I wrote my name in cursive which was honestly a challenge for me as I forgot how to write in cursive. Also ensuring that when mirrored across the horizontal access it looked nice I had to redo my name over 50 times. For this project, we were supposed to make draw things that were related to things we liked. I love being in nature so after writing my name and setting up the symmetry along the x-axis I started filling in the letters drawing different nature elements. Below is my finished cursive name before it was printed onto watercolor paper!

Uncolored Cursive Name

This is my finished product with all of the letters watercolored. I loved how this turned out and found that this was a very therapeutic process. There was a couple bumps with painting as erasing wasn’t an option and sometimes I would accidentally go outside the lines. I learned adding more water then using a paper towel was the best way to reverse any potential mistakes!

Reflection:

Through this unit I have learned so much more about Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. Coming in as a first year design student I had a lot to catch up on with learning the tools but with the help of my teacher and peers I was able to know so much more. I loved that this unit was able to make me reflect more about myself. I really had to think about my own values and how I wanted to portay myself with in my artwork. This granted me a lot of creative freedom which I was so grateful to have as it created such a connection with my artwork and motivated me to create something I truly cherish.
